McDoel Gardens and the MONON

Where did the Gardens part come from ?  This may be the answer.

In the old days it was common for city folks to have a spot just out of town for growing seasonal vegetables.  McDoel Gardens may have been one of those areas. The camera is facing Northwest and that is Grimes lane crossing the tracks. The area where the McDoel Gardens limestone mounment is now located would be in the upper left part of the right photograph. Certainly that is a fitting place for it.
