Below:   This photograph was taken facing west from the Monroe County Courthouse in Bloomington, Indiana before 1892, probably in 1891.   This is confirmed by the 1892 Fire Maps.  There are two steam locomotives in this picture. The obvious one is standing on a siding west of the passenger station.   The second is in the center of the picture and is standing on one of the angled turntable tracks.  Both engine sheds are gone and this is confirmed by the 1887 and 1892 Maps.  In fact the 1892 Map is what dates this photo to prior than 1892.  In 1892 the turntable and its lead track across 5th street had been removed and moved south of town.  Later 3 straight sidings ran across 5th St. to the old turntable site for freight car storage.  That is also confirmed by the 1898, 1907 and 1913 Maps along with some photo's.

The two box cars sitting to the right of the station are on the track that goes through the station.   The different tracks crossing the wooden sidewalk on 5th St. are all visible.  This is also confirmed with the Maps.   The 1887 map, sheet 3 confirms this photograph was taken between 1887 and 1892.  See the enlarged detail photos and 1887 Map below.

Above:  This photo was originally published in a booklet about Bloomington by Burford in 1891.  In 2002 it was published in a booklet entitled, "Bloomington and Indiana University by Bloomington Restorations, Inc.  It was also printed with 3 others from the same series, East, South and North from the Courthouse on a small commerative print that Monon Society member George Carpenter noticed hanging on the wall in the Monroe County Library.  That find is what started the hunt for this photo.

Below:  The locomotive visible just over the roof line is standing on one of the angled tracks off the turntable.  This verifies the turntable was still at this location as shown on the 1887 Map.

Below:   This photo of the two box cars on the track leading into the station verifies that the track did indeed run through the station up until at least 1892, but not after 1898 as confirmed using maps of those dates.
